This one has been marinating on the easel for a while. I darkened the sky at the top and added a little red in nearby clouds and that helped to bring them forward.

I've always liked long afternoon shadows, especially across snow, and you're left with the cool blues of the snow and warm tones of the sunlight peeking through.

#195 - A Winter's Walk

I love walking in the woods in any season, and I especially like the winter with snow because of the blue shadows on the snow. You rarely see such pure blues in the landscape, except for the sky and shadows on snow!

Now for something completely different from my normal rural Illinois! My son and daughter-in-law were recently in Giverny visiting Monet's home and studio and he sent me the picture I painted this from.

#192 - 2020

This scene grabbed my attention as I was driving by because it summed up so much of what life has been like lately: a lot of work, heads down, moving forward, trying not to notice how bleak it is around us. Hang in there, we'll get over the horizon and it will be spring again soon.

I had a hard time coming up with a title for this one and then just decided to call it 2020.

Had a great breakfast and latte at Black Lodge Coffee Roasters in New Harmony, Indiana last fall. Nice people, cool place and great coffee.
