Lights in Night Satin

11" x 14" oil on panel

I've wanted to paint one like this for a while and it was a challenge. I was intrigued by the subtle shifts in value as the scene goes back into the distance.

Sunnylands

 11" x 14" oil on panel

This is from a trip to the Sunnylands Estate in southern California. I was drawn to the vibrant colors of the landscape in the foreground compared to the dusty blues in the background.

Shade & Glory

 9" x 12" Oil on canvas panel

We've were fortunate to spend some time in Pensacola in February and I took this picture on a walk after church on one Sunday morning. I liked the challenge of the truck in shade in the foreground with the cool frame house awash in light in the background.

Pensacola Beach

9"x12" Oil on canvas panel

This is one I painted last month while we were in Pensacola, FL. We visited the beach a couple times but on the day I took the reference picture for this painting it was super cold and windy so the beach was empty. I loved the desolation, emptiness versus the bright colors of the image.

Shimmer

9" x 12" oil on canvas panel

I've been busy with commissions and not been able to post. Shimmer has been on the easel for a while; something was just bugging me about it. I adjusted a couple of the edges on the floatie and added some warmth to the pattern on the floor of the pool and now the painting is sitting better with me.

Miles From Here

16" x 20" oil on canvas

This scene is from a late summer trip trip, probably someplace in Iowa. The day was bright and the corn was high.

Sunset Service

12" x 16" oil on canvas panel

I am way behind on posting! I painted this a couple months ago because of the bright reflections on the window and the beautiful sky in the distance.

Two Lights

11" x 14" oil on panel

We spent a beautiful four days in Grand Marais in northern MN in early September. The weather there was crazy with fog rolling in and out from Lake Superior several times a day! This scene is from one of those times that the fog was rolling out.

Through the Woods

 11" x 14" oil on canvas panel

Another one from our trip to New England in July. I was drawn to the spackled sun on the path leading the house over the rise.

V Dub Hub

11" x 14" oil on canvas panel

There is a soft spot in my heart for the white1969 VW beetle I had in college. We spent a lot of time together driving from my home outside Boston to college in Indiana.

This past June we spent a wonderful four days at Robert H. Treman Stare Park in Ithaca NY and the scenery was absolutely stunning with woods, waterfalls and burbling streams everywhere.

Mirrored Specs

20" x 16" oil on canvas

This is one from a while ago that got lost in the shuffle and I never posted. I was going for something more graphic than usual with big shapes and smaller sections of interest.
